Franklin Baptist Church - History

The History of Franklin Baptist Church

The History of Franklin Baptist Church

Organized in 1871 with fifteen members, Franklin Baptist Church has provided a continuous ministry for more than 131 years. Originally on the corner of North Main and First Avenue, the church moved to its present place of service in 1903. That building continues to be a home to us, serving as our chapel and housing our community ministries. It is joined by buildings that include our present sanctuary, which was built in 1960. All of these buildings have undergone major renovations in recent years.

Through cooperative ministries shared with Virginia Baptists and congregations across the country, our reach is global. We continue to focus on the local community and have adopted the following mission:

  • proclaim the redemptive message of Jesus Christ.
  • nurture believers through Bible study.
  • glorify God through worship.
  • grow in Christian fellowship.
